The mandala music pendant is handcrafted from sterling silver by jewelry artist Martha Prentiss using the ancient wax casting method. Oxidized and polished by hand, each is a unique creation with its own variations.

Universal symbols used in both mysticism and music inform the design. An outer circle forms the boundary for two intertwined squares, suggesting the eternal knot and forming a star with triangular arms pointing in the eight directions. Two spirals spin from an inner circle, suggesting the clef symbols found in musical manuscript and the scroll work in acoustic stringed instruments. Two dots, another symbol often found in music, combine with the scrolls to suggest the universal symbol for the balancing forces of yin and yang. Polished surfaces reflect the light, and oxidized recessed areas symbolize the darkness of space.

The mandala music pendant was designed by Joël Dilley and Bett Butler, worn as a reminder that the best creation comes from a center of truth, a circle of integrity.

These colorful zippered pouches, made by artisan groups in rural Guatemala, are imported by a company/foundation member of the U.S. Fair Trade Federation working to provide fair compensation, consistent income, and health and education projects for partnering weavers.
