Joan Fabian :: artist
www.joanfabian.com

"Fabian's delicately detailed paintings radiate Middle Eastern influence. She scans fabric patterns and paints sensual, organic forms in rich jewel tones over them. The suggestive figures seem to pirouette and quiver on the page, looking like botehs - the teardrop shapes in paisley patterns - or figments of Dr. Seuss' imagination.”Elaine Wolfe, Art Editor, San Antonio Current

Leland Outz :: photographer
http://users.stic.net/laoutz/

You may know his work from the San Antonio Express-News. His online portfolio shows a remarkable grasp of how light, shadow, and color can effictively tell a story. His moody black-and-white shot of the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg

Courtney Reid :: artist
www.courtneyreid.net

The elliptical creatures haunting darkly imagined landscapes in the large-scale paintings and portraits of this L.A.-based artist seem to shift and change across multiple viewings. (Her four-panel painting "Moonraker" is featured on the cover of bassist/composer Joël Dilley's CDThe Window, and "Strange Fruit" graces the cover of Bett Butler's Myths & Fables.)

casa chiapas
www.casachiapassa.net

After an all-nighter in the studio, we often crave machacado, the Mexican dish traditionally made with scrambled eggs and dried beef. We think Casa Chiapas makes the best in town with lean steak grilled medium rare, jalapeños, tomatoes, and onions. The accompanying refried beans are soupy, spicy, and heavy with the flavor of smoked bacon. That and a fruit cup will cure whatever ails you. An added plus: their ambient soundtrack is KRTU 91.7 fm jazz. Within walking distance of Mandala Music Production.
