cece box slightly overdue dragon lady records Songwriter/vocalist and retired professor Cece Box journeys across musical genres as she writes about life experiences, women's issues, and social justice. Jazz, rock, Latin, folk, country, a dash of Cole Porter, a hint of musical theater, intimate love songs, raise-your-fist anthems…they're all here. "Tennessee Lament," ringing with contemporary truth, tells of a young woman’s experience in the American Civil War. A young mother sings about survival in the midst of genocide in "Darfur Lullaby," while "No Las Olvidaremos" laments the unexplained and unanswered disappearance of hundreds of women in Juarez, Mexico. "We who still live Produced by Cece Box. Featuring Joël
Dilley, Roland Garcia Jr., Lloyd Herrman, Jartse Tuominen, Bett Butler. Background vocals by members of Voci di Sorrelle: Ruth Moreland (director), Beth Hish, Rebecca Moreland, Cara Taylor. Visit Cece's website: Visit Cece's MySpace page: |

Over.” (And every pet lover will recognize the “Angel in a Dog Suit.”) Produced by Joël Dilley & Cecil Carter. session confirms Butler's uncommon compositional and performing ability
to work successfully with diverse musical themes and within a variety of
frameworks. Recommended."—Dave

joël dilley “The new Joël Dilley album is well worth the wait....Dilley shines with ample chops and imagination." Sound Check, KRTU 91.7 fm "Beautifully rendered....Dilley gives much thought to the ways music—without words—can articulate feelings and experiences."—Gilbert Garcia, The Current Straight-ahead originals—plus long-loved classics by Hoagy Carmichael, Bill Evans, and Leonard Bernstein—tell a wealth of stories on this critically acclaimed album. Dilley's colorful compositions offer abundant opportunities for the playful counterpoint of trumpet player Cecil Carter and saxophonist Rob Hardt, while drummer Gerry Gibbs shines on such in-your-face fare as "P.S. II." Bass-featured tracks are surprising and varied: Dilley's solo voice is passionately tender on the ballads "Stardust" and "Some Other Time," and the catchy and rhythmic bass/percussion duet "York Creek Exit" was chosen as the theme song for KRTU's weekly radio show "South Texas Jazz Project." Produced and arranged by Joël Dilley and Cecil Carter. Featuring Tony Campise, Gerry Gibbs, Rob Hardt, Ron Wilkins.

joël dilley A deeply passionate and personal work....He deftly translates all the colors, sounds, and feelings associated with his life experiences into music....His rich bass is the stuff of heart beats, ocean waves, and other natural earth rhythms.”—Hannah Castellaw, WomanSpace. Recorded in a home studio when Mandala Music Production was still in its infancy, this popular album holds up amazingly well with great sound quality, fine performances from some of the area's most respected musicians, and strong compositions (eight years after its release, "Danza de Alegria" placed in the instrumental category in the 2006 Austin Songwriters Group competition). All original tunes, many with Latin hybrid rhythms, tell musical stories of the confluence of the two Americas."Shoreline Drive," featuring Texas Tenor Richard Garcia, captures perfectly the funky Gulf Coast vibe of Corpus Christi, home of Texas' oldest free jazz festival; and "Ojos de Cielo" is a tuneful tribute to the composer's spiritual mentor. Among featured musicians are drummer J. J. Johnson, who went on to work with Ian Moore and John Mayor, and Westside Horns stalwart Al Gomez. Produced and arranged by Joël Dilley. Featuring Henry Brun, percussion; Bett Butler, keyboards, vocals; Richard Garcia, saxphone, flute; Al Gomez, trumpet; Robert Hargarther, guitar; Gabriel Herrera, udu drum, vocals, percussion; J. J. Johnson, drums; David Lucke, saxophone, flute. Visit Joël's website:www.joeldilley.com

guerra jazz desde laredo At the turn of the twentieth century, solid South Texas drummer Joe Guerra brought the best jazz players in the region to play every Wednesday night at the popular 907 Zaragoza, a posh club in a historic border mansion located―literally―on the last street in Texas. A frequent guest pianist was the late great virtuoso Joe Piscatelle, who lived and breathed straight-ahead jazz and played with Chet Baker and other legends. For this 2001 release, Guerra brought him into the studio for a rare series of sessions with bassist Joël Dilley and trumpet player Cecil Carter. Also featured are Ric Cortez on guitar, Mike Berglund on trumpet, and Bill Holman on sax. Visit a web page dedicated to Joe Piscatelle here. Featuring Mike Berglund, trumpet, flugelhorn; Cecil Carter, piano, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn; Ric Cortez, guitar; Joël Dilley, bass; Bill Holman, saxophones; Joe Piscatelle, piano. |

david underwood four abstracts "Four Abstracts is an art that can only be defined by its listener," writes classical guitarist David Underwood of his meandering, minimalist free-form improvisations. "During the creation of this music, there was a connection either between guitarist and guitarist"―(referring to abstracts Two and Three, duets with Sheer Nisman and Lera Pakhomova)―"or between the guitarist and himself. Parallel to these connections, which are at the heart of improvisation, the listener must shape his or her perceptions to the music." The four beautiful watercolors which grace the cover were painted by artist Cynthia Carter while listening to this music. Featuring Sheer Nisman & Lera Pakhomova, guitars. Visit

gibson bundee brothers bone band "If you're a trombone junkie who would love to hear a couple of the instrument's most powerful and wild players romping through a mosaic of different types of jazz, this is the CD for you."—Adam Gaines, www.trombone.org In the capable hands of virtuosi Bill Gibson and Ron Wilkins, the instrument most known for its inclusion in parade and circus invokes here the laughter of a shared family joke, the chorus of French horns in a symphony, or the plaintive cry of a wounded child. The two artists, different as night and day, blend seamlessly in exquisite arrangements by Marco Katz, backed by an equally virtuosic rhythm section. At times tongue-in-cheek, at times unabashedly romantic and sentimental, this is a truly well-played and entertaining album. Featuring Joël Dilley, bass; Darrin Kuper, drums; Mark Pomerantz, keyboards. Arrangements by Marco Katz. |

carroll & footprints boplicity (JC2301) "(Joan Carroll's) singing style contains elements of sophistication and dreamy nuances, the perfect mix." —Steve Jankowski, Jazz Improv Magazine." "A wonderful singer with a great in-tune sound who knows how to sing the melody without taking four million liberties."—Terry Gibbs, vibraphonist
In the tradition of singers like Keely Smith, Joan Carroll's low-key delivery complements an instrument
with near-perfect intonation, clear, angelic tone, and authentic jazz
phrasing. Her song selection avoids the over-done, focusing instead on
compositions by Wayne Shorter, Thelonius Monk, Bill Evans and others
that bear repeating.
